Nelson Mandela's first speech

This is a BBC news bulletin about the liberation of Nelson Mandela.

A long time ago in South Africa, Mandela fought for the honour and the rights of black people and he was arrested and stayed in prison twenty-seven years!

In South Africa, there was the « Apartheid », WHICH was the seperation / segregation of black people. It was a racist regime.

After 27 years in jail, he was liberated / released.

On this day he gave a speech in front of half a million people in Cape Town.

He wanted to be President and he became President of South Africa.
