Before D-Day
June 6th 1944: the Americans landed in France.
In 1939, the Germans HAD INVADED France. France HAD SURRENDERED in 1940.
German planes HAD ATTACKED London in 1940. The British population HAD RESISTED.
In 1941 Japan HAD ATTACKED the US in Pearl Harbor, so the USA HAD DECLARED war on Japan.
In 1941 the Germans HAD ATTACKED Russia, but Russia HAD RESISTED and finally Russia HAD DEFEATED Germany in Stalingrad in 1943.
